YEAR: 2003Mass demonstrations against the Iraq War
As the U.S. government was spinning lies, trying to convince its allies about the “need” to invade Iraq, the people of the world coordinated their resistance to this war drive and organized a series of massive mobilizations, including the world’s largest protest event in human history on February 15, 2003, weeks before the U.S. invasion. Estimates say that over 10 million people in over 600 cities across the world participated in the mass demonstrations on February 15.
The mass demonstrations across the United States were led by groups like the ANSWER Coalition, which began organizing after the September 11, 2001 attacks against Islamophobia and the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.
